QUALIFICATIONS:

-  Persons who have a minimum of 60 hour college degree in Early Childhood or related field, with preference given to Bachelors degree in Early Childhood or related field. 

-  Must gain and maintain Certification as a Parent Educator by the Parents as Teachers

    National Center.

-  Must gain and maintain Certification as a Parent Educator by the Kansas State Board

    of Education.

-  Experienced in developmental, hearing, language, social-Emotional and vision

    screening.

-  Knowledge of local agencies and organizations. 

-  A demonstrated ability to work with young children and their parents.

-  Able to work as a part of a professional team.

-  Able to work independently and complete tasks.

-  The ability to work with a variety of families in a nonjudgmental manner.

-  Excellent oral and written communication skills.

-  Well organized and able to maintain accurate records.

-  Able to drive and have own car, and work a flexible schedule with some evenings

   and occasional weekends.

 

REPORTS TO:  Director of Parents As Teachers 

JOB GOAL:  To maximize the child’s learning ability through parent education.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To implement the Parents as Teachers curriculum enhanced by other educational materials in a manner to meet individual needs of children and their families.
  2. Enhance the quality of education in the school district by exhibiting exemplary professional expertise in early childhood education.
  3. To provide personalized home visits to clients for the purposes of offering timely information about stages of child development, to suggest practical ways for parents to foster their child’s development and learning, to offer general guidance on home safety, constructive play activities, and child development topics.
  4. To provide periodic monitoring and developmental, vision, and hearing screening to ensure those children with an undetected health problem, handicap or developmental delay are identified and referred for appropriate service.
  5. To maintain accurate records through both paper files and on-line data system, to ensure compliance with Parents as Teachers Essential Requirements as an Affiliate Program.
  6. Knowledgeable about additional community resources and to act as a referral network to help clients find needed services that are beyond the scope of this program.
  7. To conduct and assist in group meetings and play groups for the purpose of providing clients with additional information on child development, and general parenting information, and children with an opportunity to explore a new environment, and develop social skills.
  8. To perform additional tasks as assigned by the director.
  9. Provide for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at a university.

 

TERMS OF CONTRACT:   Hours and responsibilities assigned by Director of Parents as Teachers.

 

EVALUATION:   Performance of this job is evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation.
